The mountain Hotel Rothorn Kulm is built at 2254 m above sea level. You will forget the bustle of daily life and enjoy the serene stillness on the mountain summit and have a wonderful view.
The Hotel is open from the 4th of June to the 16th of October, the restaurant remains open one week longer then the hotel until the 23th of October 2011.
History of the alpine hotel Rothorn Kulm
The summit of the Rothorn Kulm may seem like the last place one would build a hotel but there has been a building here since as far back as 1823. Even then adventurers and climbers were ascending the peaks and in need of refuge and accomadation.
By 1838 the first restaurant had been constructed and the Hotel Restaurant facility was in operation. Unfortunately in 1846 both buildings were destroyed by fire. Reconstruction was delayed by financial obsticals until, in 1866, the Hotel Investors Group was founded and final planning and building work could begin.
The resulting 33 room hotel and grand restaurant was completed with stables included. Fate however was playing a bad hand and the entire complex was once again burnt to the ground.
In 1893 the third attempt was made to build the Rothorn Kulm Hotel, this was the basis of todays building. There have been regular modernisations made and the facilities have been much improved over the decades but todays hotel dates from 1893 shortly after the railway opened.
