Steam locomotives

You will be amazed how little steam engine technology has chenged over the centuries. By looking at our locomotives, which date over the last two centuries, you can see how the steam is converted into mechanical energy that powers the locomotives up and down the mountain daily.

During the summer months only at the Brienzer Rothorn Line can one experience so much steam ronamce from three different errors, built over the past two centuries. The first three, which were brought into, service where built between 1891-92. Thes are also the smallest of those that are still in use today. However since the restorations they are mostly used for special events or when extra locomotives are needed to cover very busy days such as holidays and especially the1st of August.

The railway bought two further locomotives just prior to World War II. built in 1933 and 1936. Between the years 1992 and 1996 the railway purchased four more fuel oil fed steam engines. Furthermore three Hydrostatic diesel locomotives support all of our steam engines.
